This antique solid bronze crucifix wall plaque dates to the late 1800's or very early 1900's and was crafted in France. It features a detailed bronze crucifix set against a red velvet backing. The sculpted figure of Christ is mounted to a simple cross beneath an INRI scroll. An ornate metal frame surrounds the composition with sweeping foliate forms, curled scrollwork, and decorative sprays at the top and bottom.
The combination of bronze-toned metal and timeworn red velvet gives the piece a strong devotional presence. Designed for wall display, its generous 32-inch height makes it suitable for a home prayer area, chapel, church interior, or collection of European religious art.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse.
Condition:
This piece is in good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. The metal has a beautiful natural patina, oxidation, and surface variation. The red velvet backing has considerable fading, uneven coloration, staining, and wear. The wood and metal backing components also show age-related wear. Detail photos of the removable reverse panel and retaining screws are included, which show that the velvet is able to be replaced if you wish to do so. Please review all photos closely for condition details.
