Description:
This life-size statue dates to the early 1900's and was hand-carved in France. Constructed from solid oak, it features a richly detailed polychrome painted finish with gilt highlights, depicting Pope St (Pius X's tenure began in 1903). Pius X kneeling in prayer and blessing. The design reflects ecclesiastical artistry of the period, showcasing both sculptural craftsmanship and devotional expression.
Its hand-painted details, original patinated surface, and impressive scale make it an exceptional devotional piece or display figure. Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.
Condition:
Overall, this piece is in very good antique condition with no woodworm, no dry rot, and no structural issues. It retains its original painted surface with a naturally aged patina. Minor cracks and paint loss are present from normal shrinkage and age. Note the restoration work on a few of the left hand fingers (see photos), and the rear of the piece is unfinished, as it was intended to stand against a wall. These details are consistent with age and use, and they add to the authentic character of the statue.
