Description:
This set of 3 matching Gothic Revival limestone carvings dates to the late 1800's or very early 1900's. We purchased them in Belgium from a private collection. They are attributed to one of the workshops in Ghent, Belgium, with the most likely maker being the atelier Bressers-Blanchaert or possibly Alois De Beule. The colors and style are particularly consistent with Bressers-Blanchaert. We have included an old photo of the Bressers-Blanchaert workshop in this listing.
Note the rich Neogothic symbolism associated with the Lamb of God. These were likely originally used in a chapel devoted to the Lamb in either an altar or in a structural/architectural element. Note the corner symbols of the four Evangelists and the Agnus banners on the angels.
Dimensions:
The center panel is 29" wide, 28" high and 6" thick and weighs approximately 200 lbs.
Each side panel is 12" wide, 28" high and 5" thick and weighs approximately 100 lbs.
Condition:
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with devotional pieces of this period. Note minor chipping of the limestone along the edges and minor stains and discoloraations of the paint. No structural breaks observed: please review photos for details.
