Description:
This Gothic church pedestal dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's and was crafted in France. The tall oak form features carved pointed-arch panels on all four sides, a wide molded top, and a stepped square base. Its generous top provides display space for a statue, floral arrangement, or other decorative or devotional object.
In addition to its primary function as a pedestal, the piece also serves as an offering box. A money slot on the front allows donations to drop into the locked cabinet at the back, which opens with the included working key. Two decorative metal candleholders with scrolling grapevine, leaf, and grape-cluster motifs are also included. With the candleholders, the pedestal stands 58" high.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.
Condition:
This piece is in very good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. Historic, inactive woodworm holes are present, but the piece has been inspected and shows no signs of current activity or dry rot. The wood on the top has separated along its joined boards (see photos). The cabinet door, lock, and key function properly. Please review the photos closely for condition details.
