Description:
This religious statue dates to the mid 1800's and was crafted in France, epicting Saint Francis of Assisi in his traditional Franciscan habit. Standing 51.5" tall, the saint is depicted in a brown Franciscan habit with a hood and knotted cord belt. His raised hand displays the stigmata, one of his defining attributes.
A skull and book rest at his feet, traditional devotional symbols of mortality, prayer, and contemplation. The warm painted finish and deeply modeled folds give this substantial wood figure a strong presence. Its size and recognizable imagery make it well suited to a church, chapel, prayer room, or collection of Catholic religious art.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.
Condition:
This statue is in very good antique condition, with surface wear, scuffs, minor chips, and areas of paint loss consistent with age and use. Please review the photographs closely for additional condition details.
