Description:
This altar base dates to the mid/late 1800's and was crafted in France. Originally serving as part of a church altar or liturgical furnishing, it features beautifully turned columns, paneled construction, decorative beading, and open renaissance-inspired detailing along the lower apron.
Of particular interest is the original consecrated altar stone, which appears to be substantially older than the altar and was likely transferred from an earlier ecclesiastical setting (circa 1600's or earlier). The stone retains its carved crosses and sealed relic cavity, providing a tangible connection to centuries of Catholic liturgical tradition.
Finished in a distressed white paint with traces of earlier finishes visible beneath, the piece possesses the authentic character and patina that only decades of use can create. The combination of architectural details and aged painted surfaces gives it a timeless European presence.
The turned supports, paneled front, and original carved details reflect the quality craftsmanship found in French ecclesiastical furnishings of the period. Its substantial size and architectural character make it an eye-catching statement piece in both residential and commercial settings.
Ideal use as a chapel or church altar. However, it is suitable for use as a console table, display stand, retail fixture, or decorative focal point. It would work beautifully in a farmhouse, French country, coastal, cottage, or traditional interior. It is equally well suited for displaying artwork, statuary, plants, or decorative accessories.
Dimensions:
