This antique religious wall panel is European and likely dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's. The carved relief depicts Jesus seated among a group of children and adults, recalling the biblical account of Christ welcoming and blessing the children.
The figures retain rich polychrome color, with carefully modeled faces, layered garments, and gilded highlights. A gold and red Gothic-inspired surround frames the scene. Carved floral latticework accents each corner of the joined-board wood panel. Its dimensional carving and warm colors give the piece a strong devotional and architectural presence.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.
Condition:
This piece is in good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. The joined boards have visible seams and age-related separation. There are scattered small losses and wear along the edges, carved corner ornament, painted surfaces, and gilded details. A hanging wire is attached to the reverse.
