Description:
This prie dieu dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's and was crafted in Belgium. Constructed from solid oak, it features beautifully carved door panels adorned with scrolling vines, leaves, and grape clusters, along with deeply carved foliate decoration running vertically along the front stiles. The architectural molding, stepped plinth base, and rich oak grain give the piece a distinctive Renaissance inspired appearance.
Traditionally used for private devotion and prayer, the lower platform serves as a kneeling surface, while the interior compartment provides storage for prayer books, rosaries, devotional items, or personal effects. The hinged upper compartment offers additional concealed storage. Its thoughtful design combines functionality with decorative craftsmanship, making it equally suitable for use in a chapel, church, prayer room, or as a distinctive accent piece within a traditional home.
The warm aged oak patina and quality craftsmanship reflect the enduring appeal of French religious furnishings from the period. Note the key and lock are in good working/locking condition Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.
