This architectural canopy dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's and was crafted in Belgium. Constructed from richly toned oak wood, it features exceptional Gothic detailing throughout, including pierced cresting, tracery, finials, foliate carvings, and decorative moldings. The dramatic triangular form suggests it originally served as a church canopy, statue baldachin, or architectural over-piece above a devotional figure, altar element, or sacred furnishing. However it would serve wonderfully as a half tester canopy for a large bed. With its 7 foot width at the wall it wold make a great statement!
The craftsmanship is particularly notable in the extensive hand-carved ornamentation that surrounds all visible surfaces. Its substantial scale and striking Gothic design make it an impressive statement piece for a home, gallery, church, or commercial interior. It could be displayed above a statue, incorporated into a restoration project, or mounted as a half tester canopy over a bed.
Note that no mounting hardware/brackets are included.
Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.

Condition:
Overall, this piece is in very good antique condition with no woodworm, no dry rot, and no structural issues. It shows minor surface wear consistent with age and historical use, which contributes to its authentic character.
