This religious statue dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's and was crafted in France. Constructed from carved oak, it depicts Saint Augustine, one of the most influential theologians and bishops in Christian history. He is shown wearing a bishop's mitre and ecclesiastical vestments, with his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing or teaching. His contemplative expression, flowing beard, and dignified stance reflect the wisdom and spiritual authority for which he is known.
Finely carved details throughout the figure include the bishop's vestments, richly rendered drapery, and decorative elements at the hem of the robes featuring ecclesiastical motifs. The warm oak patina and exceptional craftsmanship highlight the artistry of French religious carving from the period. Its impressive scale and commanding presence make it ideally suited for a church, chapel, religious institution, or significant private collection.
