Description:
The 130 year old Saint Sepulcher church in Nivelles, Belgium closed in 2019 due to structural issues that were not economically practical to repair. It was deconsecrated that same year. In February 2024 we purchased the furnishings with the hope of reclaiming them and placing them in new homes in the USA. This impressive, elaborately carved Baroque pulpit was among the furnishings. This pulpit is considerably older than the church: it dates to the mid/late 1700's. When the Nivelles church was built it was moved from its original monastery home. This is an unusually high quality piece that is complete and in very good antique condition. We note one point of restored damage: there was an area of dry rot on the rear of the panel where it was attached to the stone wall. We had this area professionally restored by removing several damaged beams and replacing them with new oak wood (see photos). All repairs are hidden behind the original panel. Note that we are offering this pulpit it as it is: in need of cleaning after several years of storage.
Dimensions:
159" tall; the basket is 109" above the church floor to the top rim; the sounding board is 101" wide and 63" deep.
